Ayumi Yoshida: My Personal Thoughts & Facts

 

Ayumi Yoshida [known as Amy Yeager in the English dub anime and Viz manga] is my personal favorite character from Detective Conan [Case Closed in English franchise]. She's a 6-7-year-old girl who is just plain adorable and cute!!!! What's not to like about her? Why do so many people hate her? I'm here today to explain what makes Ayumi cute and adorable and what makes her a good person that everyone should try to like.

Backstory

Ayumi Yoshida is the daughter & only child of Mr. and Mrs. Yoshida and she lives with them. When she was in preschool, she met her friends, Genta Kojima [George Kaminski in English dub and Viz manga], and Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya [Mitch Tennison in English dub and Viz manga]. When she was in the first grade, she along with Mitsuhiko and Genta attempted to befriend Conan Edogawa who was really Shinichi Kudo in child form [Jimmy Kudo in the English dub and Viz manga]. On their first adventure, they went to an haunted mansion to explore it. Genta and Mitsuhiko go missing, Ayumi and Conan discovered that the people living it in had murdered a person. When the mistress attempts to kill Conan and Ayumi, the son admits his guilt and they turn themselves into the police. Conan, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta were scolded by their parents with the exception of Conan who was scolded by Ran Mouri [Rachel Moore in the English dub and Viz manga], his childhood friend and crush. On their second adventure, a bad guy sneaks a map into Ayumi's bag which holds her prize toy. When the bad guy attempts to grab the bag from Ayumi almost attacking her, Ran kicks him away and threatens him. Ayumi then shows the treasure map to Conan and Genta decides that they should find the treasure. The bad guys follow the kids in an attempt to use them to find the treasure. Conan figures out where the treasure is using the clues and the kids are captured and imprisoned by the bad guys. Conan comes up with a plan to save all of them and they managed to alert the police. The case ends with Genta and Mitsuhiko bragging about stopping the bad guys, but it was Ayumi who told Ran that Conan was the one who saved them all and she admitted that he was so cute while doing it. Ayumi then kissed Conan on the cheek showing that she had feelings for him. Conan is flabbergasted and attempts to tell Ran that he doesn't have feelings for Ayumi. But Genta and Mitsuhiko aren't falling for it since they both have a crush on Ayumi.

Victim of Many Kidnapping, Hostage, & Murder attempts

It seems to be an running recurrence where Ayumi is either almost killed, being kidnapped, and being taken hostage. I don't get why so many criminals go after her. Here are some photos of those times.

Poor Ayumi. I just can't understand why many bad guys go after her. She's a sweet and kind girl who loves animals and doesn't hurt others. So why hurt her?

Relationship with others

Conan Edogawa

Ayumi has romantic feelings for Conan shown as she kissed him on the cheek. There's been other instances of her showing her love for Conan.

Ai Haibara [Anita Hailey in the Viz manga and Vi Graythorn in the English dub movies]

Ayumi is friends with Ai Haibara and the two of them have a deep bond.

Megumi Ito

Ayumi doesn't really have a good relationship with Megumi Ito because Megumi also has a crush on Conan. The two often bicker over this.

Inspector Misao Yamamura [Detective Magnum in the English dub]

 Ayumi seems to get along well with Inspector Misao Yamamura except in the Gathering Edible Plants episode where she is yelled at by Inspector Yamamura along with the others. But overall, she has a bond with Inspector Yamamura who is friendly towards the kids.

Ran Mouri

Ayumi gets along well with Ran even though Conan has feelings for Ran and once admitted to Ran that she loves Conan.

10 Years later

Ayumi is a 17-year-old high school student in the 10 years later OVA where she still has feelings for Conan. She attends Teitan High School where Shinichi and Ran attended and wears the Teitan High School girls' uniform.

Voice Actor & Drama actress

Ayumi is voiced by Yukiko Iwai in the Japanese sub, Monica Rial in the Funimation dub, and Janice Kawaye in the BangZoom dub.

Ayumi is portrayed by an unknown child actress in A Challenge Letter to Shinichi. It was never revealed who played her.

Overall Character
